Are you making these email marketing mistakes?
Stop doing these three things to level up your email marketing game.
Newsflash: email marketing isn’t dead.
In fact, 72% of customers say they PREFER to be contacted by email over other forms of communication.
So what does that mean for you?
It’s GOOD NEWS!
Email marketing is generally less expensive and time consuming than social media marketing, and you get a much higher ROI.
There’s just one catch: you need to make sure your email marketing strategy is sound. Just sending out sporadic emails whenever you feel like it won’t cut it most of the time.
Here are the top three mistakes that businesses tend to make with their email marketing strategy, and how to fix them.
Not using the customer’s name.
Personalization is KEY, and it’s simple if you capture data correctly. When people subscribe to your list, ask for their first name. Then put that first name in every damn email. Throw it in the subject line sometimes, too. Your customers are much more likely to read on if there is a personalization aspect included in the email.
Sending emails at inopportune times.
Use your metrics for this one! Look at the times you’ve sent emails in the past. See which times get the best open rates. Do some industry research to see what times are best for your target audience. As a baseline, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings tend to be best, but that can vary across industries.
Not optimizing emails for mobile.
Almost half of all emails are opened on a mobile device, so your email needs to look amazing on both desktop AND mobile. If your email looks like crap on mobile devices, people won’t read what you have to say. Send yourself a test to make sure everything looks great in both places.
PRO TIP: Find five emails in your inbox right now that catch your eye. Jot down what you love about them and why you were drawn to them, and then translate those ideas to your own brand. Inspiration is everywhere if you look hard enough!
