Picture this.
You’re at a family party, and your great-uncle wanders over. He starts talking to you about his latest and greatest landscaping project, but landscaping is something you really don’t give two shits about. The more he talks, the more your mind starts to wander. But the conversation would be great if you were actually interested in landscaping, right?
It’s the same thing with your marketing. If you’re talking to the wrong people, you aren’t going to sell a single product or service.
Even if you’re offering the best thing ever!
One huge piece of a successful marketing campaign is simply finding the right people to talk to. Yelling out into the void and hoping someone listens is a waste of your time and energy. Take the time to figure out your EXACT target audience, and then speak directly to them.
Here are three simple questions to answer to help you find your people:
Who is your ideal client?
If you got to hand-pick a client to work with, who would they be? Create a detailed profile of that person. Some things to consider: demographic information (such as age, gender, location, income, education, etc.), interests, values, pain points, and goals.
Where does your ideal client hang out?
Using the profile you just created, think about where your audience likes to spend their time. Are they on Instagram? LinkedIn? Do they attend networking events? Do they listen to podcasts? Find them, and then GO THERE to do your marketing.
Why does your ideal client need YOU?
Here’s where you sell yourself. Now that you know you’re talking to the right people in the right places, it’s time to tell them why you’re the best. What problems can you solve for them? Why should they invest in you? Lean into what makes you stand out.
PRO TIP: Avoid talking about yourself when you get to step three. Talk about them and how you can help. (Think “you”, not “I”.)
Take 30 minutes to work through these steps, and then get out there and find your people. You got this!
