Personalized automation always starts with good data.
Most people get scared when you say data and think “it’s complicated”, but it doesn’t have to be.
Personalized automation is the key to making your customers feel valued and appreciated. Start by collecting some basic information and you’re good to go.
If you’re worried about your customers not wanting to give their information to you, I have good news. Recent studies show that 83% of customers are willing to give you their information in exchange for a personalized user experience.
There are four simple things you can ask for from your customers, and I promise these four things will make a HUGE impact on your customers experience with your brand.
Ready to get started? Start with these 4 basic data points:
Always capture name AND email from your leads.
Make sure you separate out their first name from their last name on the form.
WHY? When you just ask for their name and you jumble them together, most systems are not smart enough to separate out the data. That means you either have to separate it into first name and last name by hand Or you look sloppy by saying something like “Hi Meghan Donnelly, ” on your newsletter instead of “Hi Meghan,”.
Capture their phone number if you plan to do SMS messaging
Ask for their birthday
Why? Because who doesn’t love free shit on their birthday!? You don’t even need the year! Just ask for the month and the day. You don’t really care about their age, and if you’ve done your homework you should already know the age range of your target audience.
I ALWAYS start with these 4 data points, but in reality you only need their first name and email to get started building personalized experiences. If you have their first name, you’re in. You can have a casual conversation on any platform.
